ODYSSEYS proudly hosted New Yorker Melanie Edwards as a composer-in-residence. With her violin in hand and daily access to a piano in our local SINEM Institute (government-sponsored National System of Musical Education) she worked on completion of her newest album, concluding her residency with a
public recital. A close-up of Melanie and her work
can found on her website:

Argentine American painter, Luis Corchon first exhibited his 9 x 20 foot acrylic on canvas, titled "Sharing Eternity," on the floor of our local SINEM Institute (government-sponsored National System of Musical Education) and encouraged viewers to select the piece we would cut and take away at the outdoor exhibit in the town plaza the following day. More on Luis and his work can be found at

From Québec, Canada, Myriam Lambert was our visual artist-in-residence for April and May 2012. Putting her French and English aside she advanced her Spanish remarkably in only eight weeks. With her photography and videography project she created a striking work on site at San Lucas Island, which from 1873 to 1991 was a penal island for violent criminals whose lives were short and often spent in torture. Costa Rican novelist José León Sánchez wrote "La Isla de Hombres Solos/Island of Lonely Men. Myriam's images contrasting the red carpet with this desolate locale, were on display for the Inauguration event followed by a month-long exhibit at Costa Rica's National Gallery. For
complete information and photos of "Differences/Similitudes" as well as

Jason Scott Kofke from Atlanta GA, USA, came to us fresh from his Arctic Circle Residency, specifically "for professional
development, to learn of Central American visual art aesthetics, and to develop
new concepts for a show exploring man and nature . . ." Jason made
progress toward these goals primarily through excursions into the cloud forest,
photography and some drawing. He remains in contact with the ODYSSEYS Program Director
regarding the possibility of a future month-long solo exhibit at Costa Rica's National Gallery, and also regarding the idea of a photography workshop
involving local underprivileged youth and disposable cameras.
Swiss author Mélanie Richoz was an ODYSSEYS writer-in-residence as a recipient of the "Bourse d’Encouragement à la Création Littéraire 2011-2012," from the Canton of Fribourg (Switzerland). During her two-month residency she enjoyed warm water whitewater rafting and volcanic hot springs among other excursions, learned an amazing amount of Spanish, and of course worked diligently on her second novel, "Mue." We've never been so grateful for our French, as to read in the dedication, "Merci aux membres de la résidence d’Odysseys Costa Rica pour leur accueil . . . (Thank you members of the Odysseys Costa Rica residency, for your hospitality.) For more information regarding this and her other books, "Tourterelle," and "Je croyais que," we encourage a visit to her web presence, at
